South Carolina will host an NCAA baseball regional this weekend at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks (43-15), who did not receive a top-eight national seed, will be the regional’s top seed and play fourth-seed Bucknell in the opening round Friday. No. 2 seed Virginia Tech will face third-seeded The Citadel (42-20), the Southern Conference champion, in the other first-round matchup in Columbia.
Coastal Carolina (51-7) earned the No. 4 national seed as the Big South champion. The Chanticleers will host second-seed College of Charleston (42-17), third-seed N.C. State and fourth-seed Stony Brook at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ Single A ballpark. A national seed means CCU will host a Super Regional if it can advance through this regional.
Clemson (38-21) will travel to Auburn as the No. 2 seed in that regional. The Tigers will Southern Miss in a first-round game. Auburn will play Jacksonville State in the other matchup.
The 64-team tournament is made up of 16 four-team, double-elimination brackets. Read More
