Parade planned for Gamecocks Friday at noon

It appears Mayor Steve Benjamin's first act as mayor will be to throw a parade for the Gamecocks? national championship baseball team.

City Manager Steve Gantt said Benjamin will have a meeting at 10 a.m. tomorrow at City Hall to plan the parade. Gantt said the parade is tentatively scheduled for noon Friday on Main Street, from City Hall to the State House.

Benjamin, a USC graduate, will be officially sworn-in tonight at 6 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
