Maroon 5 may be one of pop music’s most recognizable bands, but that has not stopped them from injecting a little bit of country into their new album, Hands All Over, due out on September 21. The band cut a track [1]for the album with Lady Antebellum [2]and Maroon 5’s lead singer Adam Levine is thrilled with the end results.

“We are so happy with how it turned out,” Adam told CBSNews.com. “They did an incredible job. We wrote the song and her voice (Lady A’s Hillary Scott) was perfect for it and the band filled in the spaces in a beautiful way. It was a great collaboration.”

The country connections for the new album do not end there, however. Hands All Over was produced by Mutt Lange, Shania Twain’s [3]ex-husband who is credited with helping break Shania as well as producing some of rock music’s biggest hits like Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” AC/DC’s “Back In Black” and Bryan Adam’s “Everything I Do (I Do It for You).” Maroon 5 traveled to Switzerland to record with the legendary producer.

“He’s a genius and it was amazing working with him. Wow, what an experience,” Adam said to CBS. “It was unique for us. We had never gone abroad to record before. He’s just one of those guys who’s done everything and has done really well and it was cool to have a different perspective on the music.”

With the lines between genres more blurred than ever — Lady A, Taylor Swift [4] and Carrie Underwood [5]have all enjoyed recent success [6]on the pop charts, while rock groups Train and Nickelback are branching out to the country charts — could Maroon 5 be crossing over into the country market? Not necessarily, though they won’t deny the country influence heard on their new album.

“This album has a lot of different styles – a little Motown, a little country, a little straight ahead rock n’ roll and pop music,” Adam explained. “It’s everything we love all wrapped into one beautiful package.”
