Today memorial services in Orangeburg for two toddlers whose mother has been accused of killing them. In jail is 29-year-old Shaquan Duley, who allegedly suffocated them and strapped them into car seats, allowing the car to roll into a river.
Officials with an Orangeburg funeral home say services will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Baptist Church for 2-year-old Devean C. Duley and 18-month-old Ja’van T. Duley.
Yesterday, the bodies of of the children lay in repose for visitation as mourner paid their respects. An account set up for the Duley boys at Bank of America is to help pay for funeral expenses.
Some members of the family are speaking out for Shaquan Duley, who they say was a loving mother. In fact, Duley’s new attorney says there were mitigating factors in the death of the children and that his client would plead “not guilty,” when it comes time to make a plea.
At the same time, Sheriff Larry Williams has reported that he secured an admission of guilt from Duley, and he says she showed no remorse.
At question now will be her state of mind and if there were circumstances and pressures that may have led to temporary insanity of mental instability.
The sheriff now is not commenting as the case now goes to court proceedings. The setting of bond and further proceedings will take place in general sessions court.
