Little Big Town Visits Top 20

Little Big Town releases its new album, The Reason Why, on Tuesday, and this weekend, the band talks about it with host Nan Kelley on GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown.

The album comes at a great time for LBT. The first single, “Little White Church,” is in the Top 10 on the countdown, and two of the group’s members — Jimi Westbrook and Karen Fairchild — had a chance to adjust to parenthood while they took some downtime from the road to record the album.

They welcomed a son, Elijah Dylan Westbrook, in March while the sessions were in process. That was quite different from group member Kimberly Schlapman, who gave birth to a daughter, Daisy Pearl, in Phoenix in 2007 in the middle of a tour. The group was literally still touring right up through the end of her pregnancy and performed as a trio for the first time that night while Kimberly was in the hospital.

“As we were looking ahead, we were like, ‘Wow, this really is perfect. I can be home,’” Karen says of her own pregnancy. “I wasn’t feeling that hot anyway, and [I could] be in the studio and get fat, and no one will have to see it.”

“That’s what’s so not fair!” Kimberly laughs. “There are pictures of me everywhere and none of her!”

In addition to the Top 20 appearance, Karen, Jimi, Kimberly and Phillip Sweet will be highlighted this weekend in GAC’s Origins: Little Big Town. It premieres Saturday at 10 p.m. ET.
