Sheheen introduces education agenda (AUDIO)

Democratic candidate for governor, state Senator Vincent Sheheen, introduced his education agenda Wednesday ahead of opponent Nikki Haley. Haley last week said she would introduce her education plans within two weeks.

Sen. Sheheen held education press conference outside of a Columbia public school

Sheheen held a press conference in front of a public middle school in Columbia. He began by criticizing the state’s Republican leadership for South Carolina being denied federal education funds because of the state’s budget cuts made this year.

“It is an unbelievable example of the failed policies of Mark Sanford and Nikki Haley and the rest of the crew that have been running this state for the last eight years in South Carolina,”says Sheheen.

The Haley campaign immediately fired back against Sheheen’s focusing Wednesday on education only, instead of the  GOP “hot button” issues:  immigration, the health care law, worker’s compensation reform and abortion. Haley’s campaign manager Tim Pearson issued a press release challenging Sheheen to take on those issues instead.
