Good music makes the listener feel something. Good parties can make visitors feel something, too, and Lady Antebellum [2]’s Hillary Scott went through a whole range of emotions when the trio was honored at Nashville’s Hard Rock Café Wednesday during a No. 1 party for “Our Kind Of Love.”

“Wow! Look at that!” she exclaimed when the band got an unexpected dividend. Hillary, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood received a triple-platinum album for selling three million copies of Need You Now.

She went from that exclamation of happiness to tears of joy just a few minutes later when her publishing company, EMI Music, announced it was making a donation to Brent Gambrell Ministries [3], an agency dedicated to rebuilding Haiti.

“We feel so loved and taken care of by this community and are so appreciative,” she said after regaining her composure. “We feel the love.”

If love is measured in plaques and awards, there was plenty of it at the Hard Rock. The band, the publishers, Capitol Records and producer Paul Worley were among the recipients of mementoes recognizing the ride “Our Kind Of Love” took to the top of the chart.

Also honored was California-based songwriter Michael Busbee — busbee, as he goes by professionally. He’s penned the Rascal Flatts [4] hit “Summer Nights” and songs by Katy Perry, Danny Gokey [5], Phil Stacey [6], Toni Braxton, the Backstreet Boys, Smash Mouth and the Jonas Brothers. Still, “Our Kind Of Love” marks his first No. 1 in country.

“This song was the first song that we ever co-wrote with busbee, and it was pretty early on in writing for the second record,” Hillary noted. “He made this signature piano lick that was what set it off — he played on the record as well — but this was the first song we wrote for the second record that we knew when we wrote it, it was gonna be on [the album]. And the fact that it ended up bein’ a single and bein’ a No. 1 — [his] first country No. 1 — it feels like a big dream. It’s really exciting.”

Not that Lady A is just sitting around looking at its past achievements. The band had planned to perform “Our Kind Of Love” and its new single, “Hello World,” for the Hard Rock crowd, but the night’s previous work and the chilly air had their voices completely worn out. The band was out until 2 a.m. the night before, shooting the “Hello World” video.
