The governor has chosen Chad Walldorf of Sullivan’s Island to chair the state Board of Economic Advisors.
On the business side, Walldorf is one of the founders of the Sticky Fingers restaurants and on the political side, he served as an early deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Mark Sanford where he chaired the 2007 Government Efficiency and Accountability Review (GEAR) Commission which made cost savings recommendations for the Budget and Control Board. A financial supporter and fundraiser for Haley, Walldorf has just served as vice chairman of then governor elect Haley’s transition team.
The BEA prepares and reviews economic forecasts and general fund revenue projections. The General Assembly uses these projections in part to create the state budget.
The chairman of the BEA reports directly to the Budget and Control Board as it sets fiscal policy. The chair is usually the only one who speaks for the board in public statements.
Walldorf said in statement that he is looking forward to help put the State’s fiscal house in order.
He follows former board chair John Rainey
