Julianne Hough has a new leading man – on screen, that is. She will star opposite Tom Cruise in the upcoming movie Rock Of Ages. The New Line adaption of the Broadway musical centers around rock hits of the 1980s by Journey, Joan Jett, Bon Jovi and Pat Benatar. It follows a couple that meets at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, falls in love and tries to stay together while living the rock life.
Director Adam Shankman, who also directed Hairspray, will take the helm as both director and choreographer. He gave Julianne the news that she had the part while she was waiting in an airport for her flight. “I asked her if she wanted to be in a movie with Tom Cruise and she wanted to not get on the plane so she could celebrate,” Adam told Variety.com. “Her audition was surreal — maybe the best I’ve ever seen.”
Mary J. Blige is also set to star in the film which will begin production in May. Julianne had a role in the movie Burlesque and will star in the Footloose remake, scheduled to hit theatres this fall.
