Sheryl Crow Working On Country Album With Brad Paisley

Sheryl Crow has been around Nashville for a while, recording two hit songs with Kid Rock, performing on the CMA Awards, and singing on Brad Paisley’s upcoming album. She’s even made Nashville her home. It seems only natural that her next move will be to record a country album. “Funny you should ask,” Sheryl told The Star Tribune. “I’m working on it right now. I’m doing some work with Brad Paisley. I’ve been doing a lot of writing. Hopefully it’ll be out early next year.”

A country album will not be much of a departure from the music Sheryl is known for. “I already had a pretty strong country influence in my music,” she said. “You listen to ‘Strong Enough’ and ‘If It Makes You Happy’ and ‘Hard to Make a Stand,’ there’s a lot of country influence in there already, but there’s just no pedal steel and no fiddle. The lyrics are nearing what I consider straightforward country lyrics; they’re a little left of center.”

When Sheryl performed “Coal Miner’s Daughter” with Miranda Lambert and Loretta Lynn during the CMA Awards, fans responded, requesting the video and buying the single on iTunes. The success of that performance reminded Cheryl of the music she loves, the same music that is inspiring the sound of her new album.  See photos from her CMA performance »

“I had a huge response after I sang ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’ with Loretta Lynn,” she said. “That’s the kind of country music I really love – the old-fashioned Jimmie Rodgers, Carter Family, Loretta Lynn kind of country music. It will be more old-fashioned than it will be new country.”

Sheryl will spend the summer on tour with Kid Rock.  Watch the video for their latest collaboration “Collide” »
