Blake Shelton [2] was already a star in the country music world when he took his place as a coach on NBC’s The Voice. With several hit songs and a recent onslaught of awards to his credit already, The Voice exposed him to a mass audience that may have never heard of him or his music. The show skyrocketed his popularity on all fronts, including album sales, Twitter followers and even on the street.

“It actually blows me away,” Blake told the Huffington [3]Po [3]st [3]. “It’s definitely obvious. Just walking down the streets of New York City with Miranda [4], people are stopping me and wanting to say hi and take a picture or something, and it’s always about that show. I’ve been going to New York City and Los Angeles for 10 years and you can count on one hand how many times someone has recognized me in New York City.”

Blake’s latest album Red River Blue, debut atop the Billboard charts after selling more than 116,000 albums earlier this month. The album’s lead single, “Honey Bee,” is the fastest-rising single of his career so far, spending time at No. 1 on the country charts. He also performed the song on The Voice. He gives credit for the success of both “Honey Bee” and Red River Blue to both old fans and new as well as The Voice.

“There’s no better feeling that feeling like you won somebody over,” Blake said. “And it’s the same feeling I had the very first time I got onstage and held a microphone when I was 7 or 8 years old. It’s that same rush of ‘I’m starting from zero, you know, and I want to make these people like me and like my music and what I stand for and who I am as a person.’ So when you have that opportunity like I do with `The Voice,’ there’s that whole new group of people again.”

Blake is scheduled to return for a second season of The Voice along with Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine. He is currently on tour with Brad Paisley [5].
