Luke Bryan’s brand new album, Tailgates & Tanlines, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Album chart and in the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart this week with more than 145,296 copies sold. It is also the second highest selling debut for a country release this year, second only to Brad Paisley’s This Is Country Music.
“I’m very proud of this album, and to have fans connect with the music in this way is exciting and really humbling,” Luke said. “When I was writing and recording this project, I wanted to make an album which made people forget about all the other things in their lives that might stress them out and just have fun! And to have this kind of response from my fans makes me feel like that goal was accomplished!”
Tailgates & Tanlines is a title sure to grab people’s attention. Luke chose the title because to him, the words ‘tailgates’ and ‘tanlines’ just go together. “It sounds youthful and fun,” he says. “You kind of associate a fun time with everything around those two words and that phrase. They’re words and phrases that are used throughout the album, and it just sounds like a good movie to me. If you’re in the theater and see a preview and you see a cool title, I think that’s what that title does.”
And speaking of movies, Luke recently visited our studio and revealed which movie made him “cry like hell.” To find out which flick caused waterworks for this manly man, watch our “5 Things With Luke Bryan” below!
Tailgates & Tanlines‘ lead single, “Country Girl (Shake It For Me),” is a Top 5 hit and has sold more than a million downloads, Luke’s best-selling single to date. It more than doubles the first week sales from his last album, Doin’ My Thing.
