Rock Hill’s historically black Clinton Junior College has created its first-ever branch of the NAACP.
Dozens of students turned out at the school’s gym for today’s announcement. Rock Hill N-double-A-C-P President Melvin Poole says students at Clinton Junior College showed interest in the civil rights organization.

Poole says that approval came in October. Angelo Geter, an academic specialist at Clinton, says the top priority for the junior college’s new chapter is voter registration.

Clinton Junior College is a two-year school offering associate degrees that opened in 1894.
