Fire kills one man, injures firefighter in early morning blaze

A Rock Hill man died in an early morning fire today on Neely Road.

A Rock Hill police report says 58-year-old Ronnie Joe Wylie died after flames engulfed his home just after 5 o’clock this morning.

Rock Hill Fire Department Investigations Captain Rusty Myers says the fire was caused by a wood-burning heater.

Damage to the house was estimated at 30-thousand dollars. Myers said the home did not have any utilities connected and that Wylie was the sole occupant of the home.

Wylie’s sister, Janice, who lives next door to the residence, told police her brother recently had a stroke and was disabled.

One of the 15 firefighters who responded to the blaze was injured — he was taken to Riverview Medical Center.
