Lawmakers rebuke “great day in SC” statement

It’s a great day in South Carolina… or is it?

Several months ago Governor Nikki Haley asked state employees to answer their phones with that greeting.  However,  a York County lawmaker and a Lowcountry legislator want to stop it.

State Representative John King says he and fellow lawmaker Wendell Gilliard of Charleston don’t think it’s a great day in South Carolina.

King says it won’t be a great day in South Carolina until those problems are solved.  He also says it won’t be a great day until rural counties like Chester have the infrastructure to lure industry.

During an interview with the Charleston on Post and Courier, Haley, “Is this really the bill that your news outlet thinks the people care about?”

King says the coverage and attention his legislation is receiving makes the bill worthwhile even if it doesn’t pass in Columbia.
