Scotty McCreery may be singing about the trouble with girls, but fans have had no trouble snatching up his debut album, Clear As Day. The album has been certified gold after selling more than 500,000 copies and currently sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, a spot it has held for five weeks since it hit shelves October 4.

“It’s huge!” Scotty said. “Every artist dreams of a gold album and works hard for it, so it’s a major accomplishment to have your debut album go gold. This is just incredible. I want to thank the fans. This is a testament to how great the fans are.”

Clear As Day debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making Scotty the youngest male in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. The album also notched the highest first-week sales of any solo country artist this year and his first single, “I Love You This Big,” is also certified gold.

Scotty performed his current single, “The Trouble With Girls,” on the American Country Awards Monday night where he also picked up an award for Artist of the Year: New Artist. He will join Brad Paisley’s 2012 tour which kicks off January 12 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
