State Troopers, local law enforcement out in force this weekend

If you’re thinking about drinking and driving New Year’s Eve, the South Carolina Highway Patrol says think again.

Lance Corporal Billy Elder says state troopers will be looking for impaired drivers virtually everywhere.

Elder said on Thursday’s edition of Palmetto Mornings on WRHI that the penalties for D-U-I offenses are quite severe.

Elder says you can expect to see law enforcement virtually everywhere Saturday night.

Those areas include back roads, secondary roads and neighborhoods.  Elder says state troopers have been busy in York County this year.

During last year’s 78-hour New Years holiday period, there were 11 fatal collisions in South Carolina.
