Justin McKee interviews Shane Proctor just a few hours after he was stepped on by his bull and broke his arm.

Rodeo is one of the toughest sports there is and several rodeo stars have the broken bones to prove it. World Champion Bull Rider Shane Proctor will undergo surgery to repair his broken left arm. He suffered the injury in the 10th round of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo [2]on December 10 when he was bucked off Powder River Rodeo’s Black Attack and then stepped on by the bull. Shane also suffered a concussion.

Shane was X-rayed by the Justin Sportsmedicine Team at the Thomas & Mack Center. They put him in touch with Dr. Sims, an orthopedic surgeon in Charlotte, North Carolina, as Shane wanted to have the operation close to his home in Mooresville, North Carolina. He is expected to miss at least three months while he recovers from the injury. He and wife Jessi are scheduled to move into their new home early next week.

Bareback rider Steven Peebles will also undergo surgery in Seattle for injuries suffered during the WNFR. He broke his fibula in his right leg in Round 5 and also tore ligaments in his right ankle. Steven will miss at least two months as he recovers. Saddle bronc riders Chuck Schmidt and Jacobs Crawley and bull rider J.W. Harris also suffered broken bones at this year’s WNFR. None of them are expected to need surgery and should be able to return to competition in 6-8 weeks.
