Tilley named new CHC Executive Director

Monday night, York County’s Culture and Heritage Commission named a new Executive Director. Carey Tilley was selected from out of four finalists to take over the museums following the departure of longtime director Van Sheilds in October.

CHC Commissioner Rick Lee said the decision to select Tilley was unanimous.

Lee said Tilley was quite familiar with the recent power struggle between York County Council and the museums commission — and that too was a plus.

Tilley’s served in the museum field for over a decade, and he’s served as the Executive Director of the Cherokee National Historical Society in Park Hill, Oklahoma, since 2006.

Tilley has also served as the director of the Chieftans Museum and Major Ridge Home in Rome, Georgia.
