A date for Alan Jackson’s concert in Mineral, Virginia has been set for Sunday, May 20 in the Louisa County High School parking lot according to Pam Harlowe, the mayor of Mineral. Mineral served as the epicenter of the August 2011 earthquake that rattled the east coast and suffered heavy damages. The small town rallied to beat several big cities in an online campaign hosted by Eventful that allowed cities to cast their votes to win a concert by Alan.
Not all of the 6,000 available tickets will be free, however. The county will sell some of the tickets to raise money. Alan has waived his fee but Mayor Harlowe said the county still needs to raise $200,000 for other expenses. To accomplish this, they are working to get companies and businesses to sponsor the event.
Any profits made from the concert will go to rebuilding and other projects to help repair earthquake damage in the county. No alcohol will be allowed at the concert, as it is on school grounds. Details on when and how to get tickets are not yet available.
