Lionel Richie will headline Billboard’s annual showcase at South by Southwest’s Music Festival. The showcase will take place March 14 and will mark Lionel’s first SXSW appearance. His performance will also feature surprise appearances by special guest collaborators.
Lionel will release his latest album, Tuskegee, on March 28. The album is a collection of his hit songs recorded with some of today’s biggest country music artists, including Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington and Little Big Town.
“I want to thank Billboard for the invitation to perform, and I’m eager to hear the music from the other artists we’re sharing the Billboard stage with on March 14th,” Lionel said. “I will be joined by a surprise guest who will help me unveil music from Tuskegee, my new Mercury Nashville album coming out March 26th that features duets of 13 of my hits with some of the biggest names in country music. I can’t think of a better way to launch this album than by sharing the new music at South By Southwest.”
“Lionel’s catalog of hits is amongst the most beloved and time-tested of any artist singing today,” Billboard editorial director Bill Werde said “That his current project is built on those hits gives you a sense of what to expect at the show. Add to that some of the amazing artists that we have up our sleeve to join Lionel onstage, and you’re looking at a night that will be one memorable moment after another. This show is going to blow people way.”
Billboard’s 2012 SXSW showcase will begin at 8 p.m. CT and is open to festival badge holders. A limited number of non-badge holders will be able to buy tickets at the door as well. The showcase will also feature performances by Poliça, Wallpaper, Trouble and The-Dream.
