Ed. note: You may have seen North Dakota native Gwen Sebastian during the blind auditions for The Voice, the talent show starring country superstar Blake Shelton. Gwen impressed the four coaches with her rendition of Sugarland‘s “Stay” — and she chose to be on Team Blake for the competition. We asked Gwen to keep us updated during her time on The Voice. Check back each Tuesday for posts from Gwen!
Q&A with Gwen
GACTV.com: How did it feel walking down the red carpet to your Battle Round?
Gwen: It was both exciting and nerve racking at the same time. First of all, I’m praying I don’t trip and knock over the big Voice sign, and secondly, I’m going into a situation where I have to literally sing ‘for my life.’ That’s how it felt. Plus, I had to sing against someone who became my friend. Wow! Watching the show this week, really brought all of those feelings back.
GACTV.com: Were you surprised at who each team’s mentors were?
Gwen: I realized that the coaches had connections, but boy, after finding out who the mentors were, we all really were impressed! These are some of the biggest icons in every genre of music. Some of my fellow contestants and I talked about how lucky we felt knowing we’d get to be in a room with these icons and how completely star struck we were. What would we ask them? What would they say? Would they like us? All of these things went through our heads.
GACTV.com: Where did team Blake find out who they were going to Battle?
Gwen: We went to a ranch just outside of Los Angeles. I have to admit I felt more at home there than in the actual city. Lots of dirt and dust. Just like my farm in North Dakota!
GACTV.com: Which Battle Round do you think was the most compelling?
Gwen: I don’t know how Christina was able to pick between Jesse Campbell and Anthony Evans, Jr. First of all, not just anyone can sing that song. It takes great vocal chops to do it and each of them “brought it”. An amazing performance that I think everyone will be talking about.
GACTV.com: Do you know when your Battle Round will air?
Gwen: No, but I wish I did! There are 3 more weeks of battle rounds, so any one of those will work for me. Go Team Blake!
