Joey + Rory will release their new album, His and Hers, on July 31. Fans have come to know the pair not just for their music but also as the couple living peacefully in their 1870s farmhouse in Pottsville, Tennessee. Rory writes songs and works on old cars, Joey gardens or bakes bread at Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse, the restaurant she owns with her sister-in-law. On the new album, fans will come to know them individually, with Joey taking the lead on half the album’s tracks and Rory on the other half.

“In all of our live shows, he’s always done half the singing and I do half,” Joey said. “So we just felt like that was the right direction to go with this album – let it really be more of what we are together, and fill it full of great songs.”

The ‘rootsy’ album opens with “Josephine,” a detailed letter from a Civil War soldier. There’s also “When I’m Gone,” a ballad about a lost loved one, “Teaching Me How To Love You,” a reflection on life and love, and “Someday When I Grow Up,” Rory’s take on the playfulness he shares with Joey both in life and on the stage.

Rory wrote or co-wrote much of His and Hers while other songs came from some of Nashville’s best known songwriters and talented friends. Country legend Tom T. Hall even has a cut on the album with “Your Man Loves You Honey.” For Joey + Rory, recording from an outside writer has to meet certain requirements. “It has to be genuine, it has to be honest, it has to be sincere,” Joey said.
