Josh Turner played a special four-song set at a Cracker Barrel in Brooklyn, Ohio on Monday to help bring the community back together after Katherina Allen and her two daughters, Kerri and Kayla, were killed by their husband and father, Kevin Allen, at the restaurant. Katherina and Kerri died at the scene while Kayla passed away a month later.

“This is not my typical day,” Josh said. “I don’t have a band with me, and I’m not here to sell records. God gave me a talent to sing and provide an opportunity to bring a community together.”

Nearly a thousand people gathered around a portable stage for Josh’s performance. Cracker Barrel, Josh’s current tour sponsor, brought him to town to boost morale of both the town and the Cracker Barrel staff. He spent hours after his set signing autographs and meeting with fans.

“This community has been through a lot,” Heather MacDonald, DVL Public Relations & Advertising executive working with Cracker Barrel, said. “We wanted to do something to help bring the community back together.”

Josh also donated his performance fees to Strongsville City Schools, which both girls attended.  He said on Monday, June 11, all proceeds the Brooklyn Cracker Barrel makes on both restaurant and merchandise sales will be donated to Strongsville schools.

Josh will release his new album, Punching Bag, on June 12. Read our review here and also check out our photos of Josh from this week’s CMA Music Festival.
