David Nail’s pre-show warm up of Adele’s “Someone Like You” has created so much buzz as a YouTube release that MCA Nashville has decided to release a three-song EP, 1979, July 17. The EP will include David’s version of Adele’s hit song as well as his current single, “The Sound of a Million Dreams” and “Half Mile Hill” from his The Sound of a Million Dreams album.

“It’s hard to believe the life that ‘Someone Like You’ has taken on,” David said. “It’s proof that people hunger for great songs – and they are open to different interpretations of songs they love. I started singing it because it’s a great song to warm up with, and people who heard it liked it and then, I guess, they told other people, who told other people.”

Fans initially requested David release his version of the song, which led him to release the YouTube video. Soon, the video was being picked up by major media outlets. With such a big response, he went to his label to see if there was anything more they could do.

“We never did it for anything more than to share with the folks who were asking,” David said. “With people continuing to ask, we met with the label and asked what they could do. 1979 was their response.”

1979 is named after the year David was born. The EP is stripped down and more live than what people expect from a traditional studio recording. He chose “Someone Like You” as a warm up song before his shows simply because he thought it was a great song.

“I think every singer hears songs that make you want to sing them,” he said. “I got to the Adele album late, because I listen to so much sports talk radio but the second I heard it, I was all about it. It was just one of those songs. And I love the idea that enough people want to hear it, that we’re able to put this EP out on iTunes, so anyone who wants to share these songs with me can.”
