The Bellamy Brothers were recently inducted into The Former Texas Rangers Foundation. The foundation is made up of members who have served as Texas Rangers and are now retired. The Bellamys were presented with plaques, badges and pins during the ceremony, making them honorary Texas Rangers.

The duo first met the Texas Rangers when they played the foundation’s Silver Star Gala in the fall of 2011. The Rangers were so impressed by their performance that they decided to induct them into the legendary organization.

“We were stunned when they told us,” Howard Bellamy said. “The Texas Rangers are such a classic image in the American west.” David Bellamy added “Every boy dreams of being a Texas Ranger and now we have the badges to prove it.”

The Texas Rangers were unofficially formed in 1823 when Stephen F. Austin hired 10 men to protect families settling in Texas after the Mexican War of Independence. They became an official agency in 1835, making them the second oldest of all state-level law enforcement agencies. The Rangers were involved in some of the most famed criminal cases of the Old West, including John Wesley Harding and Bonnie and Clyde. They have also been immortalized in everything from novels to the television show Walker, Texas Ranger.
