Wade Hayes [2]is featured on the cover of the current issue of Country Weekly [3], opening up to the magazine about his battle with stage IV colon cancer. “I really do want to live,” he told the magazine. He received his diagnosis in December  2011 and learned the cancer had spread to other parts of his body.

“I had no idea that I was in that bad shape,” Wade said. The country music community came together at the news of Wade’s diagnosis. With the help of friends including Kix Brooks [4] and Rascal Flatts [5]Jay DeMarcus, Wade was able to be treated by some of the best doctors in the United States.

In 1994 Wade topped the Billboard singles chart with his debut, “Old Enough To Know Better.” A year later he had Top 5 hits with “What I Meant To Say” and “I’m Still Dancin’ With You,” and a Top 10 hit with “Don’t Stop.”

In the Country Weekly interview, Wade talks candidly about his diagnosis, his treatment and the long road to recovery that is still ahead of him. In April, he shared some his struggles with cancer with GAC’s Headline Country [6].

“The whole ordeal is a big thing,” Wade said during the interview. “First of all, you find out that you have cancer, which is a shocker. And then you find out, in my case, that I didn’t catch it in time and that it has now spread.”

Wade is now cancer-free and working on new music, including a song about his battle with cancer called “Is It Already Time?” A free download of the song is available HERE [7] from Country Weekly.“It’s about my experience when I figured out I really was in trouble,” Wade said of the song. “Every word of the song is true.”
