Florida Georgia Line’s Life-Changing “Cruise” Through McDonald’s

A ‘cruise’ through the McDonald’s drive-thru usually ends with a Big Mac and an order of fries. For country newcomers Florida Georgia Line, a trip to the “Golden Arches” ended with Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley making a life-changing decision.

“It was probably three and a half years ago,” Tyler said. “We were going to write with a buddy of mine and we were sitting in the drive-thru. We were almost about to graduate college and were just kind of like ‘What are you gonna do after college?’ ‘Well, I don’t know, what are you gonna do?’”

Waiting for their food, they decided to take their music seriously. They loaded their guitars into the back of Brian’s Tahoe and started touring, playing their music wherever they could.

“That was an epic moment,” Brian said. “Like, ‘We’re gonna do this. We’re gonna take it serious and if nothing happens in a couple of years we’ll go get regular jobs and be regular people, but if it does then let’s chase this thing.’”

Things have definitely “happened” for the duo. They just signed a record deal with Republic Nashville and are working on an album. Their debut single, “Cruise,” is at radio now.
