Mel Tillis Celebrates 80th Birthday in Nashville

Mel Tillis celebrated his 80th birthday on Wednesday, August 8 with a private party held at Honky Tonk Central in downtown Nashville. About 400 of Mel’s closest friends, including daughter Pam Tillis,packed the party to honor the milestone birthday.

Charley Pride, Lorrie Morgan, Bobby Bare, Lee Brice, Jerrod Niemann, Alabamas Jeff Cook, Eddie Raven, Jimmy C. Newman, Ira Dean, Meghan Linsey of Steel Magnolia, Bobby Goldsboro, Williams & Ree, Scotty Emerick, comedian Lonnie Shorr, former Dallas Cowboys football coach Barry Switzer, producers Buddy Cannon and Harold Shedd, GAC’s Storme Warren and many more were also in attendance at the music-filled event.

Mel and his band, the Statesiders, provided the music, performing for partygoers. Pam joined her father onstage as did Charley Pride, Jeff Cook and others. Mel is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame. He has recorded more than 60 albums, had 35 Top Ten singles and written more than 1000 songs, 600 of which have been recorded by major artists.
