Red Cross launches new ‘Hurricane’ app for iPhone, Android

It’s been more than nine months since an EF-2 tornado ripped though York County last November, killing three and injuring seven in the Ogden community west of Rock Hill.

The American Red Cross was one of many agencies that responded to that incident — and has now launched an App for your iPhone or Droid so you can let friends and family know you’re safe with one touch.

That’s Katherine Correll is the Executive Director of the Upper Palmetto Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Correll says this multi-faceted system can be crucial especially following an incident where cell phone infrastructure is overloaded or damaged.

Correll says that with smart phone use becoming so widespread, the Red Cross has had to keep up with current trends in communication.
