County mulls over future of $3M worth of funds for fire training center

Tega Cay VFD
York County Manager Jim Baker says the county appears to be moving ahead with plans to build a new fire training center with $3 million in unused bond funds.

Baker says a committee of fire chiefs will present a specific plan to the County Council October 15th that outlines how the center will fit into the county’s budget. Baker says that presentation will include how future expansions will be funded.

Baker says the county’s rural fire chiefs believe a new training facility is a higher priority than the fire substations. He says the fire chiefs and their consultant also believe the center should be a stand-alone facility instead of an expansion of the existing training center on Ogden Road.

Baker says the Ogden Road location would continue operations until the new fire training center is built.
