A Winthrop University golfer was arrested late Thursday night for drunk driving with five passengers in his car. 22-year-old Kyle Bearden of Barnwell was pulled over after officers saw him driving 30 in a 40 speed zone along Cherry Road with an open container of beer in the back seat.
A police report said Bearden and his five passengers were on the way to the Firewater 110 Club from the Pub House.
At the city Law Center, he blew a .19, nearly three times the legal limit.
In a statement today from Winthrop University, Athletic Director Tom Hickman says that Bearden has been suspended for the next two events including a tournament in Dafuskie Island, S.C., this weekend.
