The second annual Johnny Cash Music Festival held October 5 at Arkansas State University raised approximately $200,000 according to the show’s executive produce Bill Carter. Proceeds from the event will fund the restoration the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess, Arkansas as well as support a scholarship fund established in Johnny Cash ’s name.
This year’s event was hosted by Johnny’s daughter Rosanne Cash who also performed. Willie Nelson , Dierks Bentley and the Civil Wars were on hand as well. The ultimate goal is to establish the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home as a museum in his honor. Keeping the attraction in Johnny’s hometown of Dyess will also help boost the local economy.
Plans are already underway for next year’s festival. It will mark the 10th anniversary of Johnny Cash’s death.
