Winthrop campus featured in Showtime’s Homeland

For the third time in as many episodes of this season’s “Homeland,” Winthrop University has had a star-turn on the Emmy-Award winning series.
From being able to boast that its classrooms were used by no less than Claire Danes in her tour de force portrayal of Carrie Mathison—a bi-polar CIA agent who’s been teaching ESL classes—to serving as the lush campus backdrop of the school attended by Dana Brody (daughter of main character Nicholas Brody), Winthrop has been tapped to provide an authentic setting for the series’ labyrinth of storylines.
The scenes were taped June 11-13 when the cast and crew from “Homeland”—which has just been renewed for a third season—descended upon Winthrop. The shoot lasted three days and utilized scenes from McBryde Hall and from a classroom and hallway in the West Center, but also outside near Tillman Hall and Margaret Nance residence hall.
Nor is this the first time this year that Winthrop University has been utilized as an important television locale. The school, which has been noted nationally for its Winthrop Poll and past basketball teams, was also selected by NBC’s Chief White House Correspondent Chuck Todd, during the height of South Carolina’s primary season, as the location for his “The Daily Rundown” show, giving Winthrop’s students a front-row seat on how a live daily news program is produced.
