Luke Bryan Is Proud to Be Part of Country Music

Luke Bryan has spent a lot of time on the red carpet lately. He was up for multiple CMA Awards earlier this month, picked up the American Music Award for Favorite Male Country Artist and is up for seven American Country Awards.
He just celebrated his sixth No. 1 single with “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye” and will set out on his first headlining tour in January. To top it off, he’s also working on a new album.
“We’re just getting it going,” he told the LA Times Pop & Hiss Music Blog . “My head’s kind of fried from all that. It’s like I just took the ACT for 12 hours straight. But I’m more excited about this one than about anything I’ve ever been a part of.”
In addition to his own success, he’s also enjoying seeing two of his good friends, Jason Aldean and Eric Church, succeeding on both the country charts and with their headlining tours. Many critics refer to them as part of a new wave of artists who care changing the landscape of country music. It’s a landscape Luke is proud to be included in.
“I’m excited to be part of a movement that’s progressing country music,” he said. “There’s always gonna be people saying, ‘It ain’t country anymore,’ but I don’t get into that whole deal. I know when I roll into town – and when Jason and Eric do – that there’s jacked-up pickup trucks and country folks out there. We’re performing what they want to hear.”
Luke’s music is also being embraced by non-country fans. His No. 1 country hit “Drunk On You” also reached No. 16 on Billboard’s Hot 100. While he’s not going to turn away new fans, he’s also not going to change what he’s doing just to convert someone into a country fan.
“As a country artist it’s important to move the needle and make a difference beyond your core audience,” he said. “But you can’t ever strategically try to accomplish that; then things get weird. I just cut songs I love and that represent what I want to say. And if it crosses over, that’s very flattering. It’s cool to know that with people listening to rock and rap, I’m sitting on their iPods along with that stuff.”
Next week, Luke brings his sellout Farm Tour to Athens, Georgia for an exclusive GAC concert special. Tune in Wednesday, November 28 at 10p|9c and click HERE for a sneak peek!
When it comes to his Dirt Road Diaries Tour which kicks off in Evansville, Indiana on January 17 with Florida Georgia Line and Thompson Square as special guests, he isn’t saying much. But he did give fans a little hint of what’s to come.
“It’ll be big but with some intimate moments, too,” he said. “I feel like I’m taking everything I’ve learned and putting it all in there.”
