It’s CMA Awards week in Nashville, but there are a few other award shows that take place leading up to “Country Music’s Biggest Night.” Performing Rights Organizations SESAC, ASCAP and BMI each hold their own awards ceremonies to honor the songwriters, composers and music publishers of the year’s most-performed songs in their respective catalogs.

The 2012 SESAC Nashville Music Awards were held at The Pinnacle at Symphony Place on October 28. Among those honored were Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott and Craig Campbell. Catt Gravitt, writer behind “Alone With You” and “Why Ya Wanna,” was named SESAC’s Songwriter of the Year and “A Woman Like You,” recorded by Lee Brice and written by Jon Stone, was named Song of the Year. ASCAP’s 50th Annual Country Music Awards took place October 29 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Resort. Ben Hayslip was named Songwriter of the Year while Brad Paisley took home Songwriter/Artist of the Year honors. Jake Owen’s “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” written by Eric Paslay and Terry Sawchuck and Blake Shelton’s “Honeybee” written by Ben Hayslip were both named Song of the Year. The 60th Annual BMI Country Awards were held at BMI on October 30. Tom T. Hall was honored as a BMI Icon while Luke Laird and Dallas Davidson both picked up Songwriter of the Year honors. Each of them penned five of the most performed country songs of the year. “Take A Back Road,” written by Luke Laird and recorded by Rodney Atkins, was named Song of the Year.
