York County Sheriff’s Deputies say a toddler missing for nearly five hours late Wednesday just outside the Town of Clover was not alone as dozens of officers, a K-9 team, helicopter and complete strangers helped search for the boy.
Two-year-old Payton Myrick was with his grandfather Wednesday afternoon working on a tractor when, in an instant, he wandered into the woods. Family members immediately started searching for the boy and contacted authorities just after 5 p.m.
York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Trent Faris says the boy had man’s best friend — an Australian Shepard named Ash — the family dog, at his side the entire time.

Faris says the dog was what ultimately led authorities to find the child.

Faris says the boy was recovered, dog in tow, about a third of a mile away from the family’s home. The search involved family members and complete strangers who joined to help.
