York officers swap ticket books and handcuffs for turkey and dressing

Mike BakerYork Police Chief Andy Robinson says that thanks to grants from a number of local businesses, the number of families receiving help this year grew to 50 from 31 last year.

Robinson says today’s meal effort also serves as an olive branch to the community.

Donations were provided to the police department from employees of the police department and City of York, Bi-Lo of York, Queen’s Garage, Old Master Putter Company, York Masonic Lodge and Wal-Mart in Newport.
Robinson said each family was carefully screened to prevent “double dipping” from other food services.

Every family received a turkey, gravy, stuffing, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, dessert, rolls and a drink.
