Investigator releases cause of two recent Rock Hill fires

City of Rock Hill Fire Investigator Captain Karen Kane released information related to causes of two high-profile fires.

Kane says in the case of hte December 21 fire at the Yorktowne Village Apartments, the fire appears to have originated in or around the flower bed near the stairwell between two apartments. Investigators cannot rule out improperly discarded smoking materials as the cause of this fire. That fire displaced 18 people in eight different units.

In the January 8 fire at a Greenwood Lane home, the fire has been ruled as accidental. Kane says the fire appears to have originated in or around the area of the trash can in the back bedroom as the result of a child playing with a lighter. 10 people were displaced in that blaze.
