One man was hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte late Tuesday after police say he took a bullet to the chest.

Rock Hill Police were called to an apartment at 970 Eastwood Drive at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a reported shooting.

Police documents released Wednesday say 24-year-old Darryl Helphill of Rich Street told police he was shot by a masked black man wearing all black clothing.

Hemphill ran into the street and was treated by emergency medical personnel before he was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center.

Hemphill’s 19-year-old girlfriend told police the masked man stole $300 in cash and fled the scene.
