York Co. Economic Developers set sights on more ‘spec’ buildings

York County’s economic development director says the region is struggling with what he calls product development.

Mark Farris says five or six years ago, 70 percent of prospects wanted existing buildings to move into.

He says that figure has now risen to 90 percent.

Farris says the county’s long-term goal is to have 25-hundred acres of available property for future industrial use.  He says the county is also struggling with the need to supply a trained labor force.

Farris says educational institutions can provide the labor force with the training it needs. Hee says the county’s long-term goal is to have 2,500 acres of available property for future industrial use.

Farris says York County has to complement its substantial residential growth with commercial and industrial growth.
