Kayla Slone brightens the day of customers who come through her checkout lane at a West Virginia Walmart, singing traditional country songs from the likes of Dolly Parton and Reba. A customer filmed Kayla singing and posted the clip on Facebook. Within days, the clip went viral.

Anderson Cooper invited Kayla to his show, Anderson Live, to talk about her singing while she works. She told Anderson she’s hoping her career as a country singer will take off so she can help get her coal miner husband out of the shafts. While on the show, it was Kayla’s turn to have her day brightened when Dierks Bentley called in to voice his support.

“I’m a huge fan,” Dierks told her. “Like so many people, I saw the video, and, gosh, I just love your singing, your voice, it’s such a great traditional country voice. It was really refreshing and I wanted to just call and tell you that I’m a fan and enjoyed your story.”

Dierks wrapped up his call by offering Kayla two tickets to the ACM Awards in Las Vegas in April. She’s also on the guest list for the party Dierks is planning and the post-ACM Awards fan bash. Watch Kayla receive her phone call from Dierks – and sing Anderson into break – below:
