Faith Hill [2] is featured in Style Blueprint Nashville [3] as the subject of their weekly Faces of the South column. Faith discusses everything from her favorite places around Nashville to where she likes to take out of town guests. She also revealed one of her worst habits.

“I try my best to stay on top of things,” she said. “Procrastination is my enemy, and when I do procrastinate, it comes back to me in spades, like a house of cards crumbling to the ground. Post-It notes and calendars are prominent in our home. I wish I owned stock in Post-Its.”

Faith and her husband Tim McGraw [4] (GAC’s February Artist of the Month) [4] each have hectic careers. They are also parents to three daughters. To strike a balance between their busy careers and personal lives, Faith shares they rely on meal times and any stolen moment they can get for family bonding.

“We have family dinner together and most of the time breakfast as well,” she said. “I try hard to let the kids and my husband know I’m interested in what they are telling me. It isn’t always easy because my mind is usually full of multiple tasks. It’s a work in progress, but I realize more and more each day the value of being present for my family…quality conversations and laughter, lots of laughter. Conversations in the car have become pretty invaluable, especially with two teenage girls.”

When it comes to her career, Faith has enjoyed a mountain of success and as a result, aspiring female artists look up to her. With years of experience under her belt, she offered her advice to anyone hoping to make it in the music business.

The most important thing I would say to anyone trying to find their place in this business is first, you have to work really hard,” she said. “There is no substitution for hard work. Music has to be in your soul. One cannot chase the dream of being famous. You will be greatly disappointed. Stay true to who you are and what you are. Don’t settle for anything less. Being nice and staying nice and respectful is the only path.”

Besides giving her advice to those hoping to follow in her footsteps, she also shared the best advice she’s ever received. “Stand up for what you believe,” she said. “Follow your gut, which most of the time is your heart talking. This has been my hardest lesson. I have given this advice and not always followed it myself. The truth is, there is no other way.”
