Mulvaney’s Town Hall forum in Rock Hill draws Democrats, too

U.S. Congressman Mick Mulvaney addressed a crowd of more than 200 constituents Tuesday in Rock Hill at a Town Hall meeting.

Mulvaney shared his thoughts on gun control, reeling in the national debt and how Congress can best tackle immigration issues. While many who came were likely fellow Republicans, a few were Democrats like Demond Nichols of Rock Hill who wanted to make sure his voice was heard.

Nichols asked Mulvaney about the legality of South Carolina’s controversial Voter ID law, citing the challenges that it may bring to minorities and rural communities. Tuesday’s forum was Nichols’  second during Mulvaney’s tenure in office.

Voters in a few midlands precincts spent the better part of half a day in line after too few voting machines were placed at polling places.

Mulvaney told Nichols and the audience last night it’s his job as an elected leader to help ensure each American has one — and only one — vote when they walk in the voting booth on Election Day.

The U.S. House is in Recess until February 26 as members are spending time meeting with constituents in their home districts.
