The head of the Boys and Girls Clubs of York County was honored recently with the national organization’s Rookie of the Year Award.

David Carriker assumed the role of Chief Professional Officer for the York Count organization last fall, and received the award in honor of Richard Ullom.  Ullom served as Regional Service Director and Senior Regional Service Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in the Southeast for 12 years.

Prior to that, Ullom served at Clubs in Alabama and Florida.  One of his passions was the development of new Club executives.

“We could not be more proud that David has been deservedly recognized by our national leadership as a key leader in the Boys & Girls Clubs movement,” said Boys and Girls Clubs of York County Board Chair Todd Lumpkin. ”

“In the short time he has been with us in York County, David has made a meaningful impact on the state of our elementary through high school youth, by living our mission to reach and develop those kids who need us the most,” Lumpkin said. “In less than two years, we have more than doubled in the numbers of kids we serve, and have redesigned our programs to best lead our kids to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.   We are extremely excited about what the future holds for Boys & Girls of York County under David’s leadership.”

During the first year of Carriker’s service to the organization, the Boys & Girls Clubs of York County was named 2012 United Way Partner Agency of the year, increased Club enrollment to over 500 members and opened a new Teen Center.

In addition to after-school programs, the Clubs offered a Spring Break Camp and Summer Day Camp with several hundred in attendance in 2012.

Under Carriker’s leadership, the Boys & Girls Clubs of York County continues to inspire and enable all young people of York County, especially those who need help the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.  For
