I-77 Alliance formed to market York, Chester and Fairfield Counties

Elected officials and economic development leaders from the upstate were in Columbia Wednesday marking the start of a new group called the I-77 alliance.

The new group will market York, Chester and Fairfield Counties as a world-class business location to attract investment, jobs, entrepreneurs and professional talent.

State Rep. Raye Felder of Fort Mill says the idea is long overdue.

State Rep. Gary Simrill of Rock Hill said he put in $575,000 for alliance into the next fiscal year that passed the House Tuesday. That half-million dollars will match private funds raised by the three counties.

State Rep. Ralph Norman, also of Rock Hill, says York County can’t attract jobs and investment on its own anymore.

Chester County Supervisor Carlisle Roddey likes the idea.

And State Rep. Tommy Pope of Rock Hill says he’s a big fan of multi-jurisdictional efforts.

Aside from marketing the region, officials from York, Chester and Fairfield Counties will advocate unique regional sites like a Chester mega site along I-77.
