Local Catholic leader weighs in on Francis’ selection as Pope

Reaction is still coming in from Catholics worldwide and in our area to the selection of Pope Francis I to succeed the retiring Pope Benedict the XVI.

Father John Guiliani with the St. Phillip Neri Church in Fort Mill says Pope Francis I has a commitment to rebuild the church.

Guiliani says the Pope is a Vatican outsider and will sweep things clean.  He says the new Pontiff will face challenges.

Wednesday afternoon, 158 Cardinals in Rome elected Jorge Bergolio, Francis’ given name, from Argentia to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
