Hunter Hayes Talks to Esquire About His Country Roots
Posted By Sarah Wyland On April 19, 2013 @ 12:41 PM In Country Music News | Comments Disabled
Hunter Hayes is featured in a fashion spread in the May issue of Esquire magazine alongside artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Ne-Yo and Cold War Kids. Hunter talked to the magazine about sticking to his country roots and performing live.
“Every demo I do has a mandolin or resonator on it — some element of the bluegrass or classic country world that I grew up listening to and that first drew me in,” Hunter said. “And then I always try to find somewhere for a bluesy guitar sound, because that’s also what I love. Musically, I’m always finding my way home.”
For Hunter, there’s nothing better than performing. “The stage is my comfort zone, and playing live is what I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “It’s why I want to do two hundred dates a year. I wouldn’t feel that way if I were nervous onstage. These days, we play a two-and-a-half-hour headlining show. We have a song with a twenty-minute outro on it. Things evolve and I love that.”
Hunter debuted his latest single, “I Want Crazy,” on the ACM Awards earlier this month. The song is featured on his upcoming Deluxe album, Hunter Hayes (Encore), out June 18.
