Luke Bryan is taking a break from his headlining Dirt Road Diaries Tour to co-host the ACM Awards alongside Blake Shelton. When he was first asked to take over for Reba, he felt a bit overwhelmed by the responsibility and almost turned them down.

“I said, ‘I just don’t know if I’m ready for something like that.’ I felt like it was a little early in my career,” Luke said. “I think I had said, ‘I kinda want to enjoy being at the show for a few years,’ because it’s still new to me being at the show and performing, and so I just wasn’t ready to leapfrog. About a month later they got back with me, and they said, ‘You may have misunderstood us, but it’s gonna be you and Blake together.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m in.’ That’s a no-brainer.”

Luke is also up for four awards, including Entertainer of the Year. If something goes wrong while he’s onstage, he’s counting on his co-host to step in. “I know Blake will have my back up there if I get to scrambling too bad,” he said.

The ACM Awards will air live on CBS on April 7 at 8/7c. Before the show, tune in to GAC at 6:30/5:30c for all the action live from the ACM Red Carpet!

GAC is the official media sponsor of Luke’s Dirt Road Diaries Tour. Check out photos, videos and more from the tour in our Dirt Road Diaries Tour section!
