The council also gave first-reading approval to an ordinance authorizing the sale of the Knights Stadium property to Cato. This will be the final season the Charlotte triple-A minor league club will play at the stadium. Next year it will move to a stadium being built in uptown Charlotte. Cato is paying about $844,000 for the 32 acres off Gold Hill Road. There are plans for a $36-million distribution center that would create 130 new jobs at the stadium site. Cato recently bought 256 acres surrounding the stadium site. The company plans to invest a total of about $450-million dollars and create 7,000 jobs.
